Scalabrini Centre aims to assist unemployed foreigners and South African citizens in their job search. Every morning between Monday and Friday a dedicated team of volunteers helps over 30 clients with writing their CV, opening an email account, writing cover letters and responding to vacancies by phone, fax or email. Clients can access our IT lab if they are computer literate and do their own research.  During the first six months of 2009 more than 700 clients have accessed this project and the influx continues.  Given the great amount of people coming to the programme, service is currently rendered on a first come first served basis.

More in depth information and guidance is available for foreign educators through our Teachers’ Volunteering Programme. This project aims at providing local teaching experience to foreigner educators by placing them as volunteers in South African schools. Each term we run a workshop together with the Central District Office of the Western Cape Education Department in which the teachers are given technical information concerning teaching in South African schools.  Through this project we try to reach out to schools that are affected by staff shortage and hope to contribute to reducing prejudices between foreigners and locals and therefore to promote integration and acceptance of cultural and racial diversity.

Clients interested in the Hospitality industry are able to receive guidance and training (and often job placement) through collaboration with The Chilton School of Training run by Noreen Whiting.
