BASP Volunteer Teaching Overview

BASP is a new program for Scalabrini, introduced in 2018. The program provides academic support for 150 students who are mostly refugees. Scalabrini acts as the facilitator to assist students in completing an online Bachelor’s Degree. The subjects vary and degrees are offered in Business, Public Administration, Customer Experience and Health Care Management. The program supports promising students through their personal experience as they navigate their academic journey. As a volunteer teacher for this project, you’ll spend time being hands-on in the lab, helping with student requests and offering them direct support with their academic work.

Tasks may include but not limited to:

Lab-based teaching.
One-on-one tutoring.
Academic support.
Administrative tasks.
Database maintenance.
General operations.

Skills and attributes needed:

Confident in using a computer.
Patient.
Reliable.
Empathetic style of communication.
Flexible and energetic.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Logical and creative thinking.
Strong academic background.
Knowledge of APA referencing.

Commitment

We require a minimum commitment of six weeks, 16-20 hours per week.
